How and where are the cupcakes made?
Our cupcakes are baked in our home kitchen in County Durham which has a five star rating from Durham County Council. Our cupcakes are baked to order in small batches – there are no production lines or industrial machinery, everything is lovinglybaked and decorated by hand. We use real ingredients in our cupcakes, you won’t find any artificial flavours or preservatives in them. We try to use milk, eggs, butter and cream from local dairies, buy our fruit and vegetables from local greengrocers and use Fairtrade chocolate and coffee. We use natural food colourings and sprinkles bought from local suppliers.
Although care is taken at every stage of our baking processes, sometimes a piece of eggshell, a fruit stone, fruit skin or other ingredient from the recipe can find its way into our cakes. As all our products are made by hand on the day, the final product will vary every time. Please bear in mind that the images on our website are for display purpose only and are not fully representative of the end product.
How long do our cupcakes last?
How long the cupcakes last will depend on the delivery method you choose. A local collection or delivery means that the cupcakes are slightly fresher when you receive them, so they will last 3-4 days. For those who need to choose postal delivery, the time it takes for the cupcakes to be delivered needs to be taken into account, so your cupcakes will last 3-4 days from date of postage.
All cupcakes should be stored in airtight containers or in their card boxes, and at room temperature, never in the fridge! (Our chocolate cake recipe is extremely moist and can last an extra day!)
Allergen information
All of our cupcakes contain eggs, milk and wheat flour. Some cupcakes contain nuts. Those that contain nuts will state in the name and/or description, but all cupcakes are made in a kitchen that uses nuts and we cannot guarantee that any cupcakes will be free from nuts entirely.  We recommend that customers with nut allergies err on the side of caution and refrain from eating our cupcakes. For a complete list of ingredients please do not hesitate to contact us.
Free From Cupcakes
At present we do not offer any free from cupcakes, but we are currently looking into developing gluten free and low sugar/sugar free ranges.
How far ahead can I order?

For orders under 48, we ask for a minimum advance notice of two weeks.  However, if you have a cupcake emergency and need some at very short notice, please do get in touch and we will do our very best to help. We cannot stand the thought of someone being cupcake-less!

For Bespoke or Corporate orders, or to order cupcakes for delivery or collection, please fill out the forms on the Get In Touch page or get in touch via email or phone. What are the delivery options?
We currently offer three standard delivery options. We offer a prearranged free collection from our kitchen near Lanchester, County Durham and local delivery for a flat rate of £5 to the following postcodes: DH1-9, NE8-11, NE16-17, NE37-39, DL15-17. We can also send our cupcakes through the post in special boxes that ensure they reach their destination in perfect condition. This makes them brilliant to send as gifts to far away friends and relatives, or even clients. We charge £6 per box to cover the postage and packing costs, which is still cheaper than a courier.  Please be advised that our postal boxes are sent via Royal mail First Class which aims to deliver within 1-2 days and therefore we cannot guarantee the exact date on which they will be delivered.  If you need your cupcakes to be delivered on a specific day, please contact us to arrange this at a small increase in P&P cost.  If you are ordering cupcakes in large numbers, or have particularly elaborate 3D decorations, please contact us for a quote for courier delivery.
If you would like to collect your order from one of our stalls at an event, we are happy to arrange this, so just contact us to let us know which one.
What if I need to amend or cancel my order?
We know that sometimes life goes topsy turvy, plans change, sometimes people just change their minds. If you need to amend or change your order, please let us know as far in advance as possible. We will do our best to accommodate your wishes, but please realise that changes and/or refunds may not always be possible.
Does Storybook Bakery only bake cupcakes?
Currently we only specialise in cupcakes in a variety or flavours and decoration, and we also provide small cutting cakes for our wedding cupcake towers.  However…watch this space…
Does Storybook Bakery rent out cupcake stands?
Unfortunately, as we are currently baking from our home kitchen, we do not have the storage space to store a variety of cupcake stands and so do not offer them for hire, but we are moving to larger premises in early 2017 so hope to begin offering this service soon.
